Beware the cotton lie.
Only 6 percent of cotton grown on the planet is genuine extra-long staple cotton - Gossypium barbadense - from which genuine Sea Island, Egyptian and Pima cotton are spun.
Genetic evidence shows that G. barbadense originated in Peru and the first clear sign of domestication dates back to 4200 BC.
Brazil has always had easy access to the original 'fine' cotton, from which real Sea Island and Egyptian cotton descended. In fact, Sea Island and Egyptian cotton are not accredited labels but inventions of marketing spin.
Reunidas works with ultra-soft Pima fabric from Peru - the home of luxury cotton.
